The new standard
In 2000, the founders of Lifecode® made the decision to develop a decision platform that would embrace all aspects of health economic evaluation and become the leading tool to inform all stakeholders and decision makers. Over ten years later, the result is the world’s first agent based, distributable, adaptable and completely interactive computational architecture designed for evidence based decision making at the global, regional and local levels.
Combining economics, health economics, econometrics outcomes research, agent-based computation, disease decision algorithms, cloud processing power, and web-based architecture, Lifecode® gives health professionals and policy makers access to models that determine the long-term health outcomes and economic consequences within any disease area.
Lifecode® is a powerful health economic decision-making platform that:
- maximizes legacy, current and future economic insight
- leverages existing knowledge into a unified architecture
- enables horizontal and vertical integration
- simplifies complex ideas and facilitates efficient knowledge transfer
- provides a secure, distributed system for unrivalled processing power
- facilitates rapid prototyping? and delivers rapid roll out
- gives managed access to web-based, leading edge economic decision making tools and computational architecture
- rapidly extends existing research beyond disease specific outcomes into wider, overarching health implications
- extends the life of existing assets through full exploitation and protection from VBP and C/E argumentation
- distributes and aligns economic knowledge between internal stakeholders across organizational levels – global to regional to local
- provides full spectrum perspective to full product cycle delivery, integrated from inception, investigation; regulatory approval to market access and effectiveness analyses
- delivers a predictive approach to asset evaluation across multiyear timescale
01. BIG DATA
The Lifecode® modeling platform outputs huge quantities of data, routinely working on datasets of around 150GB, and monthly cycles that generate 12 times as much data. However, thanks to the distributed architecture, the processing time is determined by the computing resources employed, rather than by the size of output.
The power of Lifecode® means that you can process multiple possible realities to enable you to quantify uncertainties and to capture variations in potential outcomes over time. What’s more, as resources are discretionary, the need to assume infinitely divisible healthcare resources is removed, which aids validation.
Lifecode® is also suitable for analysing existing datasets – not just model outputs. Finally, as estimated populations have full medical histories, drug interactions can be captured and explored within individual disease areas, as well as in their wider context.
02. Agent-based modeling
Lifecode®’s modular approach allows the division of labor for design, minimizes assumptions, and increases transparency of complex processes with highly visible data sources.
Thanks to cascading interactions, it is possible to observe explicit cause and effect, enabling you to identify not only what happens, but also when and why. In addition, the big data output allows you to investigate every interaction and event. Full error reporting means you can quickly trap, identify and fix model design problems.
03. Integrated technology
The Lifecode® takes an integrated, discretely controlled, modular approach to all aspects of transparency. This makes it possible to understand particular circumstances under which an individual model is valid while ensuring privacy and confidentiality. By allowing a division of labor to individual specialism (which is not plausible with other approaches), cause and effect, assumptions and data sources that are used to produce model systems, can all be kept explicit.
Powerful logging tools track the processes undergone by individually modeled patients, while trapping errors and allowing the easy identification of problems within a particular model design. This approach enables the Lifecode® platform to deliver a level of validation that would otherwise be impossible to achieve.
04. Rapid prototyping
Lifecode® delivers same day results, allowing you to investigate major structural changes and ask 'what if' questions quickly and easily. The full design history enables you to trace each design iteration back to its inception, and the tight design and implementation integration ensures that understandable diagrams are actual model modules.
It is also possible to integrate and compare existing models with any API-enabled application, such as R, Stata, Excel, Gauss and WinBUGS. Lastly, automated regression analysis on existing data and Analysis Packs enable standardized patient level data (SPLD) analysis of different scenarios, including resource use, cost effectiveness, budget impact, HQOL differences, and disease prevalence and occurrence.
Lifecode®’s internal validation gives you the power to investigate an enormous variety of assumptions, access full error reporting and transparency, and equips you with the tools you need to explore noise and quantization.
As well as providing current population estimates, the external validation enhances counter factual knowledge, and identifies intermediate outcomes directly comparable with 'real world' data. It also helps you determine unmet needs, and eradicates assumption of healthcare divisibility.
06. Design integration
The overarching, system-wide design integration of all disease areas and states are held in a single, distributable, centrally validated platform. A sample of current diseases include renal failure, metabolic diseases (obesity, diabetes), heart disease, stroke, dementia, oncology (lung cancer, prostate cancer), infectious diseases, and COPD.
Lifecode® is web-based, globally distributable, encrypted architecture. As such, it efficiently shares disease and economic knowledge from department to department. It quickly extends existing clinical and economic research beyond disease-specific outcomes into wider health implications, and from projects scenarios into future healthcare environments. Also, Lifecode® enables intelligent market access preparation, knowledge sharing and leveraging and with the ability to assimilate data on an ongoing basis can aid in the prolongation of existing investments (assets).
08. Policy forecasting
Lifecode® is a robust tool that has the power to help you make big decisions. It provides the technology you need to inform, guide and ultimately support long-range health and resource decisions. By giving you the ability to model into subsequent generations, Lifecode® can show the future health impact and economic outcomes of decisions taken now.
The system also enables large populations to be investigated. For example, if a treatment that prevents death from cancer increases the number of people who go on to develop Alzheimer’s, Lifecode® will enable you to predict when this spike will occur and how much it will cost society.
